Comments/Problems:

Manually creating an (ecrypted) btrfs partition as the root partition
(two volumes automatically created, @ and @home) results in the @ volume
being mounted as ro instead of rw, thus the system doesn't fully boot
ending in the infamous blank screen with just a blinking underscore
cursor. Creating the root account in chroot and then booting to the
rescue mode, I was able to get the output of /proc/mounts which at that
point was

So @ is being mounted as ro. My guess is that was the issue, though the
solution I found at some point was very strange. The output above
clearly says "space_cache=v2", but that may not be true. Chrooting into
the system and editing fstab so it actually reads "space_cache=v2" for
both volumes instead of just "space_cache" did resolve the issue. I
can't say why, only that it worked. This issue appeared reproducibly and
the solution worked as reproducibly, as I did start over at one point as
something else went wrong.
