Simon,
Your workaround is fine. Pavitra submitted a bug internally for this,
but there should be an JIRA issue created if it hasn't been already,
then such hacks can refer to the issue number.
I'm planning to start on the discussion/resolution of this bug very
soon, cuz we are using composite selectors all over the place for our
internal renderers, so we'll be hearing about it if we don't fix this
soon.
