The sender in the FROM: header line is not used for most of the checks, 
the envelope sender is used and this may be different.

Please explain what you expect. Or better - show the difference in the 
assp processing if a FROM header line is written

From: <u...@example.com
 >

or

From: <u...@example.com>

because I'm unable to find a difference.


I'm sure, that assp does not expect or checks the < or >. 

The related feature is IMHO 'DoNoSpoofing4From' - but here I'm also sure, 
that wrapping the header line will not confuse assp.

Just got an email that is apparently from a local email address but not 
authenticated or locally originating.

The trick seems to have been to have a new line in the From address -

From: <u...@example.com
