Sometimes you do not really have a choice. If you are using TDM cards where you know that the
manufacturers use CentOS for their own development, then it makes no sense to use a different
distro.
Problems you might run into are that init scripts might need a patch here and there, or that
most recent interim kernels are not yet supported. Most of the time the kernel sources can be
patched quite easily, but if you are using the most recent Ubuntu or Fedora distributions you
might spend more time patching and recompiling the drivers than phoning because there are so
many kernel updates. Of course a pure VoIP system does not need to consider this.
