Hi all,

a colleague of mine and myself, we are currently working on a Debian based firewall project (debian-edu-router [1]) where we want to integration some sort of mDNS reflector service.

The demands for this is: We need several different uni-directional/bi-directional mDNS service type filters, applied to different sets of network interfaces.

The settings for this ideally should be configurable via config snippet drop-ins in some conf.d/ subdirectory of /etc/avahi/.

Is this a feature that would be acceptable to the avahi maintainers? If so, we would consider contributing the required changes / improvements.

We are, in parallel, also investigating, whether the mdns-reflector mini service would be a viable solution.

Also, another question: Is a new upstream release of Avahi something that is in near sight? I am asking, because we'd like to see this feature land in Debian testing/unstable in the next 6 months or so (at the latest for Debian 13 in +/- 2.5 - 3 years from now).

Looking forward to feedback, thanks,
Mike
