Late start Tuesday, chatting with the neighbours and then heading downsteam through Dutton Locks. Turned up the speed for an hour through more rural bits, past the boomed-off Frodsham Cut and back into the industrial zone of Weston & Runcorn. Tied up at the isolated Weston Marsh Lock on the posh pontoon to exercise the dog around the lock and take a peek at the rather bleak MSC.
Then the final mile to the limit of navigation before the bailey bridge adjacent to the disused Runcorn & Weston Canal. There is the bizarre sight of a church spire amid the chemical works, easy winding then headed back to the rural bits. Tried to moor on the western bank just after Frodsham but it was too shallow, pressed on for a mile or so and found a suitable point for the afternoon and overnight. What can you say about the Weaver ? Well it is rural in parts, decaying industry backdrop in others and not all that friendly to narrowboat paintwork. We ourselves have grazed a rivet and several times avoided tying up whilst waiting for a lock because of the overhanging bumpers being wider than a(n) nb gunwale. The banks do hold a pin well though. There is not much traffic. Wednesday morning all we managed was Dutton Lock and then the first post lunch locking through Saltersford. Stopped between the 2 swing bridges in Northwich and explored the town (just a bit), some shopping. Good Voda signal, tolerable 3 signal a chance for some comms. Beeky
