Dear CASPER collaborators,

Danny Price, Andrew Van Der Byl, and I are organizing a session on
"real-time processing for radio astronomy" for the International Union of
Radio Science (URSI) general assembly in Sapporo, Japan, August 19-26,
2023.

Information on the conference is at: https://www.ursi-gass2023.jp/

We hope you will consider submitting an abstract or paper, and present a
talk or poster at session J-05, or a related session at URSI.
A list of sessions is at
https://cloud.ilabt.imec.be/index.php/s/6jp5tnASX5DbY2n
commission J (radio astronomy) sessions start on page 74.

Abstracts are due January 25.

Session J-05

*Real-Time Processing for Radio Astronomy*
Next generation radio telescopes require increased signal bandwidth, faster
data transport, and wider digital signal processing bandwidth. For remote
telescopes, signal processing systems must also fit within a stringent
power budget. To satisfy these demands, faster data
interconnects, higher-throughput processing platforms are needed, as well
as improvements in algorithmic implementations to make newer instruments a
reality. The session for real-time processing for Radio Astronomy (RA)
include:

1) High performance digital signal processing instrumentation for radio
astronomy,
e.g. correlators, beamformers, spectrometers, pulsar and FRB
machines, and real time RFI detection and mitigation
2) Hardware and software for these digital backends (FPGA, RFSoC, GPU, CPU,
SOM, ADC boards, time/frequency transfer)
3) Software and hardware for high bandwidth data transport (e.g.
transporting data over Ethernet to GPUs)
4) Novel algorithms for real-time signal processing
5) Energy efficiency studies and optimization techniques
6) Architectures and development tools for all of the above

We hope to see you in Japan.

Best Wishes,

Danny, Andrew, and Dan

The XXXVth URSI General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (URSI GASS 2023)
is sponsored by the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication
Engineers (IEICE), the International Union of Radio Science (URSI), and the
Science Council of Japan (SCJ), and will be held in Sapporo, Japan on
August 19 – 26, 2023.

The scientific program will be organized covering the areas of all
URSI Commissions
(A to K) and will comprise oral/poster sessions with invited and
contributed papers, Commission Tutorials, General Lectures, and Public
Lecture. In addition, there will be workshops, short courses, young
scientist programs containing the Young Scientist Award and the Student
Paper Competition, accompanying persons’ programs, and industrial
exhibition.

Prospective participants are invited to submit papers for inclusion in the
scientific program. Detailed information is available posted on the URSI GASS
2023 website

Any topics related to URSI Commissions are welcome. In addition, papers
addressing multidisciplinary aspects will be assigned to inter-Commission joint
sessions.
