The pwc driver needs to be updated. http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/release.html#pwc8.12
This new version adds support for the logitech sphere camera. And other newer webcams.
Also
The phillips.txt file in /kernel/Documentation/usb/ is very old. There is a much newer one inside the pwc-8.12 tar.gz
