D-DAY PUT ON HOLD: SERB MILITARY HAVING TROUBLE GETTING OUT; NATO ENTRANCE
DELAYED UNTIL SATURDAY

The Serbian withdrawal has been slowed by damaged equipment and fuel
shortage as well as by land mines and booby traps.

Late on Thursday night NATO called off plans for a dawn cross into Kosovo
by British paratroopers.

In a lightning-fast D-Day invasion, the Brits were to have gone in after
lifting off by helicopter at 4 a.m. from the Skopje military compound.

The plan, which had been kept secret, was quietly canceled Thursday night
because Serbs were having trouble getting out, the NEW YORK TIMES is set to
report in fresh editions.

The paratroopers were to be swiftly followed by other British soldiers --
an advance guard was to have secured the main highway running from the
border to Pristina.

New plans are being drawn for a Saturday entrance.

BRITS WITH EGGS

The sudden delay caught British newspapers on Friday with their
journalistic pants down.

Papers up and down Fleet were caught screaming: INVASION!

An invasion that had not yet gone down.

The DAILY STAR on Friday: HERE WE COME, SLOBBA

"British troops march into Kosovo today with a no-nonsense warning for
President Milosevic - 'Don't try any tricks on us, Slobba.'

The EXPRESS: PARAS GO MARCHING IN

MIRROR: IN WE GO

"Bowed under 120lb packs and bristling with weapons, British Paras lead the
advance into Kosovo."

The SUN:

OUR BOYS: LET'S HAVE TEA IN KOSOVO

...Well, maybe on Saturday.

THE COMING 'EXPLOSION'

Not to be confused with the current situation in Washington, D.C., the
Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa faces violent explosions of fecal matter
due to massive obstructions in its sewage system!

"We are racing against time to unblock the pipes before the pipes and
manholes overflow or explode," Humberto Puerto, manager of the National
Aqueduct and Sewerage Network Service, told wire reporters mid-week.

"There are tanks that are full of fecal matter and that could explode
because of the gases being produced and the pressure of new fluids."

Hurricane Mitch caused severe cracks in the sewerage network of
Tegucigalpa, a city of more than 1 million people.

More than 80 percent of the city's pipes are destroyed and the remaining 20
percent are blocked by earth, rubbish, sand and human waste.

Fecal matter and urine have been running openly through city streets due to
the blockages in underground pipelines.
