Why is the temporary directory not created in /tmp in the first place? In equivs-build, line 19, the DIR parameter is explicitly overridden to the current directory. I guess this is so for a reason... By just removing this argument, the tempdir location would just end up in /tmp, an could be naturally overridden with the TMPDIR environment variable without special handling in equivs itself.
