/etc/init.d/mysql[3893]: 150405 12:38:36 mysqld_safe Can't log to error log and syslog at the same time. Remove all --log-error configur ation options for --syslog to take effect. Indeed, MariaDB logs go to /var/log/mysql/error.log rather than syslog. I couldn't find any way to disable log_error without commenting that line in /etc/mysql/my.cnf.
