Thanks for the deprecation warning in previous releases... Oh yeah there wasn't one. nor is there anything to say this has been disabled in the default config file in fact it's still there with a big fat warning about the dangers of turning it on. I agree it's a security issue especially if used incorrectly but then so is telnetd and I don't see anyone removing that from the Debian repos any time soon. I now have two machines I'm unable to monitor without a lot of faff. It's not like I can't recompile it and enable it again but that just wastes everyone's time. I do plan on rewriting my 10000 lines of nagios configs to take this into account but that's a mammoth task which requires some planning which could have been done if users had been given a bit of prior warning.
