Marco d'Itri pointed me to the corresponding opensuse bugs that has a simple workorund:
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=958885 Uncommenting a line in /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf fixes the problem (there's still a little glitch on login/logut but no freezes). -- Leonardo Canducci
