I cannot install llvm3.5 from backports. backports llvm uses libllvm3.5v5 which conflicts with libllvm3.5 (non-v5) used by mesa which is used by pretty much everything. mesa is not backported hence only option is to install mesa from testing which depends on libstdc++ v5 which requires dist-upgrade. Upgrading to Stretch the problem with ghc goes away. Thanks Michal
