Yes, this service is very useful. I always set my key to expire on Feb 1st, and renew it on December of the previous year. I usually set a reminder in my calendar, but this year I failed to do that. :) Even when I don't fail to set a reminder, this is important enough that some reduncancy is useful. OTOH it would be nice for people to be able to opt out, though.
