One counter argument: I have one Thinkpad which has emacs-gtk, dbus
and systemd and there it doesn't happen either.

So maybe that desktop criteria was a red herring.

If I find time, I'll try to figure out if there are elpa package which
are solely installed on those boxes where it happens. Maybe we find
the culprit that way.
