Package: upx-ucl Version: 2.01-1 Tags: upstream d-i Forwarded: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2014835&group_id=2331&atid=102331
Starting with the about to be released upstream version 2.6.26 of the Linux kernel, a kernel (i386, 486 flavor) packed using upx will fail to boot with: <snip> SYSLINUX 3.70 <etc.> boot:expert Loading linux...................... Loading initrd.gz....ready. Probing EDD (edd=off to disable)... ok </snip> And then the emulator crashes (both VirtualBox and qemu), or on real hardware the system reboots. The issue was first seen with the current unstable version of upx (3.01), but has also been reproduced with other currently available versions of upx in Debian: 2.01 (stable) and 3.03 (experimental). Cause is a change introduced early in the 2.6.26 development cycle that adds support for a "payload" inside the kernel image. The Debian 2.6.25 kernel is also affected as the relevant change has been backported for that version. Earlier kernels (Debian 2.6.24, pristine 2.6.25) will boot correctly when packed with upx.
