Package: libsane Version: 1.0.19-23 Severity: normal
The dependency libsane->libsane-extras prevents iscan to be installed, since iscan collides with libsane-extras but the latter can't be removed, because libsane depends on it. This, in turn, prevents me from having the newest version of the epkowa backend and thus support for the newest scanners. I also would guess that most people (including me) will first google for their scanner before looking into /usr/share/doc/libsane to read the readme.debian, so it should be possible to install iscan from source, since it's the most obvious solution. Or is there any reason, that makes this dependency necessary ? Ubuntu and etch do not have it ... greetings -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.26-a8 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=de_DE.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages libsane depends on: ii adduser 3.110 add and remove users and groups ii libavahi-client3 0.6.22-3 Avahi client library ii libavahi-common3 0.6.22-3 Avahi common library ii libc6 2.7-16 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libexif12 0.6.16-2.1 library to parse EXIF files ii libgphoto2-2 2.4.1-3 gphoto2 digital camera library ii libgphoto2-port0 2.4.1-3 gphoto2 digital camera port librar ii libieee1284-3 0.2.11-5 cross-platform library for paralle ii libjpeg62 6b-14 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libsane-extras 1.0.19.11 API library for scanners -- extra ii libtiff4 3.8.2-11 Tag Image File Format (TIFF) libra ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.12-13 userspace USB programming library ii makedev 2.3.1-88 creates device files in /dev ii udev 0.125-7 /dev/ and hotplug management daemo Versions of packages libsane recommends: ii avahi-daemon 0.6.22-3 Avahi mDNS/DNS-SD daemon ii sane-utils 1.0.19-23 API library for scanners -- utilit Versions of packages libsane suggests: ii hplip 2.8.6.b-3 HP Linux Printing and Imaging Syst pn hpoj <none> (no description available) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
