Don't know if is really the same issue, but it behave similar.
Edos crash also with a package that has Depends like this:

and tells:
$ cat Packages | edos-debcheck -failures -explain > /dev/null
Warning: bad package name 'i'
Fatal error: exception Failure("Bad package name 'i'
")
$
