A similar device - the TP-LINK TL-WN322G (0ace:1215) - also fails a firmware upload in the same way on Lenny/2.6.26. A patch[1] for the zd1211rw driver ("treat MAXIM_NEW_RF(0x08) as UW2453_RF(0x09) for TP-Link WN322/422G") was posted on the linux-wireless mailing list in Feburary. This has since been included in mainline[2]. With the new RF type defined, the zd1211rw driver is able to successfully upload firmware to the TL-WN322G. This was tested using a Debian 2.6.29 kernel image. It is highly likely that Pluscom WU-ZD1211B devices will now operate as expected.
