When rebooting I found out that quite some other programs were crashing, too. Some debugging with gdb revealed that this was an effect of upgrading libc6 to the version in unstable. Now I have downgraded everything again and it seems to work. So the problem is probably not in menu. It's unstable's libc6 not being binary-compatible with stable's.
