 Yes, upstream changes its extensions from .otf to .ttf to deal with the

 It is not a problem since OpenType font has its extension either .otf

 ttf-japanese-{gothic,mincho} is aimed to provide Japanese font easier, not
 just hard corded kochi font. I'm sure that I can provide 
otf-japanese-{gothic,mincho}
 as well, but it's not useful.
