When you click on the clock, the date is updated by further updates are still done by the periodic task. Could you check if your system do a NTP call when coming back from sleep? If yes, it may have gone backward in time. This may hung a periodic task. Maybe /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate is triggered because of network manager (if you use it). Neverthless, the periodic task is handled by fvwm. There is little we can do if the periodic task does not work from fvwm-crystal.
