Hello,

As the problem still persists with the newest version of thunderbird
(icedove 3.1.12-1) I searched again for a solution to finally unpin
the icedove package.

The migration assistant incorrectly replaced my username with an
empty string as it contains an umlaut. To make mail fetching work
again the empty string has to be filled in once more.

Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Config Editor->Filter: username
...
mail.server.server1.userName

The new value can again contain umlauts as only the migration
assistant, but not icedove in general seems to have problems with
non ascii-characters.
