AFAICT, the SFD files are using cubic (PostScript) splines, so CFF-flavoured OpenType (aka .otf) is the natural choice. Converting cubic splines to quadratic ones, for TrueType, in not a lossless conversion[1] and thus, IMO, should be avoided if possible.
