Unfortunately I am unable to reproduce it, and I asked around wether
others could reproduce it which was turned down, too.

Can you give me the address of that specific server? Is it really
jabber.wouldyoubuythis.net? Because actually I'm totally unable to
reproduce it there, the client runs and tells me about invalid
credentials.

The only difference I see is that you have a newer libidn11 (I have
1.15-2 from squeeze), and that you are on i386 and I'm on powerpc (but I
believe the person who confirmed the unreproducible is on i386, too).

Just to outrule it, could you install libidn11 from squeeze and test
wether that makes the issue go away for you?

 Thanks,
Rhonda
