FWIW, upstream has acknowledged the easy part of this bug report and incorporated the mentioned patch for the next release (1.2.2; upstream SVN revision 6367), however, I'm not tagging this as 'pending' or 'patch' as the yummy part of it (that is, the test for secure requests failure on MIPS) is still not addressed.
