I think that the issue has been fixed upstream [1,2] so a update of mako
to the latest version should fix the problem.

The fix seems to be quite easy, the patch is just one line [2].

If Piotr has not time to dedicate to it I could contribute the fix
(updated debian package for mako), but I'm not a DD so I will need a
sponsor to upload the package for me.
