For simple per-package results, "dpigs" from debian-goodies gives you what you want (and is little more than a one-liner similar to what was posted by another to this thread, internally.)
As for cumulative space, what you want is not how much space a package takes up but to answer the question: for a given set of package operations, what space will be occupied/freed?
