Package: wnpp Severity: normal I request assistance with maintaining the libidn package.
Libidn is an old library for internationalized domain names processing, being phased out in favor of libidn2 that supports the new standards. I am upstream author of both libraries, and have also been packaging them for Debian. I cannot seem to make maintaining the Debian packages of libidn a priority, and this has been the case for several years, so I'd like to ask for help. I have started to move the packaging to Salsa and package the newly released upstream version 1.36, but have failed to complete it due to shared library symbol versioning changes and just the amount of lintian issues coming up. I believe it is a good starting point for anyone taking over, but starting from scratch is fine too. https://salsa.debian.org/debian/libidn Feel free to push any changes to a branch in the repo and upload to experimental and discuss the process forward in this bug report. I suggest responding with a ping to this bug report to indicate you are starting work, in the remote chance that more than one person is looking at this report at the same time, to enable coordination. I'm here to help review changes and comment and can still occasionally make uploads and improve packaging, but more manpower is needed to primarily get 1.36 uploaded into Debian and be more responsive to security bugs and other duties. Thanks, Simon
