Please check if solved by update to g-s-d 3.4.0: when at choice of "Try Ubuntu"/"Install Ubuntu", (connect net and) switch to tty1 (ctrl- alt-F1) and 'sudo apt-get install aptitude' then use 'sudo aptitude'. (Or it's possible with ftp and dpkg if, like me, you also have errors with apt-get.) (Can also get http://ddebs.ubuntu.com/pool/main/g/gnome- settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon-dbgsym_3.4.0-0ubuntu3_amd64.ddeb via curl). That hasn't crashed for me yet, so (touch wood!) looks like 3.4.0 will work for Precise.
