1) Alas, my video camera is attached to the computer that does this, so
that won't be an option probably

2) triangle - https://niu.moe/@jeffcliff/101617368364604090

3) it locked properly on the first Windows+L, so unlocked and hit
Windows+L immediately. It locked successfully on both times.

Also tried to Win+L twice, this only just lead to a working lock screen.
(I noticed the sidebar was also not present, not sure if this is
related.)

4) done.

Title:
  'lock' glitch

Status in gdm3 package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  From within gnome:

  I left-click 'triangle'
  I left-click on the lock

the screen gets stuck where it doesn't go to the lock screen, but
instead the lock icon flashes orange, then back to brown, then back to
orange, then back to brown over and over again.

I can still move the mouse but I can't click on anything

Shift-Alt-F3 gets me to a terminal, then Shift-Alt-f2 or f1 gets me
  back...and then there's a lock screen.

  It's done this twice now.

  ubuntu: 18.04 LTS bionic
