Over the past couple of years people have asked me about an audio
alert for the K3UK Digitalradio Sked page. This is actually difficult to
achieve because of the PHP coding and the expectation that the code
reside on the server side. One crude alternative is now available.
You can now use the RSS feed capability of the K3UK page and then use a
RSS text to speech application. I have just used it myself and , while
typing this email, my computer spoke

"AC2C ... Richard, I don't think it'll work - I gave you a couple 3x3 calls"

I have achieved this by installing RSSTTS on my PC, a free
application. You can get it via \

http://www.anappaday.com/downloads/DAY23-RSSTTS/RSSTTS.zip

Unzip it and then click on the RED letter T in your system tray. In
OPTIONS, place http://www.obriensweb.com/sked/rss.php?page=digital

The software lets you pick a few other options if you want it. One
option is how often you want it to poll for messages from the K3Uk
Sked page, I have two minutes selected.

Whenever there is a line of text that is new at the K3UK Sked page,
the software will say "K3UK Sked PAGE" and also speaks the line of
text.

It my be useful if you are busy in the shack, reading email, or
whatever. It will speak the text and reside in the background while
you multitask. In fact, your web browser does not even need to be
pointed at the sked page.

Please experiment with this and let me know what you think.

There is also another application that will do the same ,
RSS2SPEECH,gg from Google, but they want $10.00 for it!

Both take less than 2 minutes to install and configure.
