Andy, try using RigCat for radio control. Download the IC706MKIIG file from http://www.w1hkj.com/xmls/icom/ICOM706MKIIG.xml, put it in the fldigi.files/Rigs folder, select the ICOM706MKIIG, and be sure the tiny diamond to use RigCat is selected.
