2011 International Conference on Selenium in the Environment and Human Health
Call for Abstracts -
The Second International Conference on Selenium in the Environment
and Human Health will be held on 23-28 October 2011 in the
China-Singapore Industrial Park, Suzhou, China. Abstracts are
welcomed for all aspects of Se research relevant to environment,
animal and human health. The conference program will include, but not
limited to, nutrition, public health, disease, toxicity, ecotoxicity,
remediation, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical analysis,
speciation techniques, and modeling.
Conference Venue:
Suzhou is located in the west of Shanghai and about 120 km away from
Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and 98 km from Shanghai
Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). It will take approximately 20
minutes from Shanghai to Suzhou via China Railway High-Speed (CRH).
Suzhou is renowned for its beautiful stone bridges, pagodas, and
meticulously designed gardens that are the UNESCO World Heritage
Sites. Since the Song Dynasty (960-1279), Suzhou has been a center
for China's silk industry and continues today. The conference will be
held in the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, with surrounding
classy and moderately-priced hotel accommodations located near the Dushu Lake.

Abstract Submission Deadline: July 1, 2011
Registration Deadline: September 1, 2011
Conference Registration:
The registration fee is $350 (USD), including conference reception
and banquet, social drinks, refreshments, and all meals during the
conference in Suzhou.
Conference Field Trip:
Enshi in Hubei Province, China has the largest Se reserve,
approximately 2.5 billion tons, in the world. Concentrations of Se in
deposits are over 10,000 mg/kg and up to 4-6 mg/kg in soils. The
Enshi field trip will cost additional $250 (USD), which covers all
transportation, lodge (2 nights) and meals. The travel from Suzhou to
Enshi is approximately 1,400 km and will take about 8 hours via CRH.
Conference Publication:
A 2-page extended abstract for oral or poster presentation needs to
be submitted to <mailto:zh...@siue.edu>zh...@siue.edu before July 1,
2011. Accepted abstracts will be published in the peer-reviewed proceedings.
