FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Natural Sciences at Baruch College, City University of 
New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at 
the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology/Environmental 
Studies starting September 1, 2018. Baruch College is a senior 
institution in the City University of New York system. It is located in 
the historic Gramercy Park/Flatiron district of Manhattan and has the 
most diverse student population of any college in the nation. Students 
represent 160 countries and speak more than 100 languages. The 
Department values diversity among its faculty, is committed to building

The candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research 
program that will complement the collaborative, interdisciplinary 
environment at Baruch College. Teaching responsibilities will include 
introductory courses in ecology and advanced courses for Biology majors 
and Environmental Studies minors. Baruch College's location in midtown 
Manhattan provides access to a diverse range of research institutions 
including CUNY's Advanced Science Research Center and the Science and 
Resilience Institute at Jamaica Bay.

QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field is 
required by August 2018 when the appointment begins. We welcome 
applicants working in any area of ecology, evolution, or behavior, 
including those who would broaden the scope of research our faculty 
currently pursue and/or that could strengthen the Department's emphasis 
on marine science. Preference will be given to applicants that can 
demonstrate the ability to build a successful research program in urban 
environments and leverage collaborative opportunities in New York City. 
Competitive applicants will have relevant teaching experience, a 
commitment to mentoring undergraduate researchers, and peer-reviewed 
publications in their field. Applicants should indicate their commitment 
to supporting a culturally diverse community of students through their 
teaching, research, and mentoring.
