I recommend following this guide: http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/Kernel-Build-HOWTO.html You would apply the eCryptfs kernel patch for better NFS support the same as you might apply a kernel version update patch: http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/Kernel-Build-HOWTO.html#EXTRACT-PATCH Just so you are warned, I would not expect eCryptfs to function as well on nfs as it currently does on ext3 or xfs today.
