Happy spring Edubuntu community. We are glad to let you know that we’ve released Edubuntu 25.04 and we’ve replaced some of our apps that were no longer supported with similar applications so you can still get the same wonderful experience. Many places across the world are just a few months away from summer and we want to make sure Edubuntu stays strong for the summer months for supplemental learning over the summer.

/This release is dedicated to the memory ofSteve Langasek <https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/remembering-and-thanking-steve-langasek/52665>. Without Steve’s guidance, enthusiasm for education, and volunteering to be the Release Team member to bring Edubuntu back, Edubuntu would not be around today. He was on his child’s school PTA, and passionately wanted to see the next generation learn. We owe him a debt of gratitude and he is dearly missed./

   Features*

 * This release includes*GNOME 48*.
 * For Qt-based/KDE apps, we now include theming via Kvantum, mostly as
a workaround for the inability to change the accent color in those
applications. This theme is based on GNOME’s libadwaita, on which
the default Ubuntu theme (Yaru) is based. Unfortunately, the colors
don’t automatically change if you change them in Settings, so if you
want a uniform look to the accent color, you’ll have to change it in
Kvantum Manager. Sadly, this only supports Qt6 applications, so Qt5
applications will still have blue accent colors and look/feel dated.
 * GNOME Notes is dead upstream. For that reason, we have switched to
   the resurrected GNote.
 * Likewise, GNOME Dictionary is also dead upstream. We have replaced
it with Artha, which is more of a thesaurus but does dictionary
   operations as well.

   Issues*

 * Upon first boot, the system will reboot. This is normal, and is the
mechanism to set the logo for the login screen.
 * Arthawill not launch on a Wayland session
   <https://launchpad.net/bugs/2107488>.
 * The Ubuntu welcome app branding does not match Edubuntu. We’re
   working on ways to resolve
   this,<https://launchpad.net/bugs/2060817>and next cycle it looks
like we’ll likely have a fluter-based welcome application to
   replace|gnome-initial-setup|.
 * On the Raspberry Pi, the first login will have theUbuntu logo as
opposed to the Edubuntu logo <https://launchpad.net/bugs/2060815>.
 * As Edubuntu shares a desktop with and is based on Ubuntu Desktop,
any known issues can be found in the officialUbuntu Release
   Notes<https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/oracular-oriole-release-notes/44878>.
 * Individual applications included with Edubuntu may have their own
known issues. Please consult upstream release notes for those
   applications before filing bug reports.
