A Google search for "longwave converter" will turn up many sites selling
converters. Many of them are far less expensive than the Heroes
converter and have received good reviews.

Bob,
The VLF converter would probably work well with a pre-selector designed for
LF/VLF. Unfortunately, I do not know of ANY commercial LF/VLF available.
Considering that we have new spectrum in LF now, I would think that this would
be a good opportunity for someone to make a package for LF to allow their rigs
to operate on those frequencies.

I too have considered their VLF converter, but after experiencing the rather
broad front end of the 5K in that part of the spectrum, I'm cautiously not
expecting too much. I contacted Heros and they admitted that you might have
issues if you live in areas near broadcast stations.

Nige,
Outstanding video on the Heros pre-selector. Look forward to your next
installment of having the pre-selector track the Flex.
Interested in testing other Heros products like their VLF/LF converter.
You have sold me on the desire to have the Heros pre-selector. Now I need to
see how well their LF converter works.
I like their product selection. A bit pricey, but it looks very well made and
well engineered. Wish their products had a US dealer.
Thank you again for the video. Not too long as you mentioned. I thought your
video was very informative and well made.
Cheers

I did promise a while back that I'd put a video up for it or at least in
my case the "Heros SCR Preselector-CAT". Since I use one with a Flex-5K
I can vouch that if you're using tuned antennas there really shouldn't
be a need for one. If however you are using nonresonant antennas or in
proximity to a transmitting station then you might be surprised at the
improvements that can be had. With the greatest of respect to Tim's
comment I don't consider Taiwan's Premier radio station to be very close
to me in the UK however it is the station which causes me the greatest
problem! Or at least it did until I got the Heros Preselector. And just
to be clear, the incoming, coaxial cable has two line isolators so there
is negligible RF getting back into the shack (Tested with spectrum
analyser and current probe).
I have just managed to put the video up tonight and it can be found at

Tim,
Thank you. As I own a 5000a and thanks to your answer, I guess that it is one
accessory I do not need for my ham shack.
Thank you.

It is very useful if you have a lot of near by strong signal
interference causing intermod mixing on the ham bands. It is more
useful on the FLEX-1500 and FLEX-3000 as they do not have individual ham
band filtering like the FLEX-5000 does.
