Thanks for the link, David! I know this is a bit of an older comparison, and I could not see if you mentioned this: ligatures.
Not just for the obvious "ff" and "fl" types, but also unusual ones like "OE" and "ffi" ... In books and some fonts, using these adds [perhaps traditional] visibility for people reading them. InDesign has support for ligatures. Nothing in FrameMaker (up to version 12) that does this (not easily anyway). I do not know about QuarkXPress.
