I use the flatbed scanner on a Samsung SCX3405FW combined with the XSANE Image Scanning Program to scan receipts with output as jpg without any major difficulties on Linux. As others have noted at present there is no way to link these into Gnucash at the moment. Main reason is to store receipts from heat printers which fade before thay fade. Ad mittedly never large numbers though
