Michael, Where did you get Alex's email address? You lost a month in getting a answer by not using this list in the first place.
As has been posted in the help manual and on the GnuCash website and FAQ and WIKI, you only need to copy the data file to your thumb drive. There are some settings in a .gnucash folder that are optional. You jus abandon the progam and download a fresh copy to your new machine. Good Luck.
