That is probably an historical artifact. You can run it in XFCE as that is built on Gtk. If you try to run it on KDE, you can still run it, but it will pull in the Gtk dependencies. (that is, it won’t use QT which is native to KDE) Somewhere long in the future, when/if GnuCash abides the MVC pattern, it will be easier to port the interface using a native toolkit such as QT, Cocoa, etc. At present, the functional code is very tied to the UI which is built using Gtk.
