 Inaugural programme of PG Departments of M.A./M.Com. and M.Sc.

The inaugural function of the new academic year 2010 – 2011 of the Post–Graduate Departments (M.A, M.Com. and M.Sc.) at St. Xavier’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Mapusa) was held on 12th July 2010 in the College Seminar hall. The Chief Guest for the function was Mr. Aleixo Sequeira, Honourable Minister for Power and Environment, Govt. of Goa.

The inaugural function began by invoking God’s blessings followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. Ms. Mamata Naik, faculty of the M.Sc. Department then introduced the Chief guest, Mr. Aleixo Sequeira to the gathering. Principal, Rev. Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sa, welcomed the guests and students and said that “Students are like sheep and the teachers are their shepherds”. Congratulating the students on their excellent results, the Principal expressed his desire not to focus only on good results but a vision to enlighten and transform society.

During this programme, the M.A. Psychology course director Dr. Suhas Shetgovekar, M.Com. course director Ms. Jane Lobo and Reader of M.Sc. course, Dr. J.P.P. Pacheco spoke about their respective courses and the opportunities available for the students persuing that course. On this occasion the booklet, ‘Sleep: wake up for healthy tomorrow’ authored by faculty members of the Abbé Faria Post Graduate dept. of Psychology and the seminar proceedings ‘Nanotechnology and its Impact on Society’ by the Post-Graduate Dept. of Chemistry were released at the hands of the Chief Guest.

The meritorious students of M.A. and M.Sc. were felicitated by the Chief Guest. In his address to the gathering, Mr. Sequeira advised students to work hard in order to reach their goal. He mentioned about students who aspire for high income jobs and said its one’s ability, skill and efforts to reach the income. He emphasized that Govt. is in the position to provide jobs to everybody so one has to look for the private employment where there are equally good facilities. M.A., M.Com. and M.Sc. students performed cultural programmes during this event. Mr. Daniel Coutinho proposed the vote of thanks. Finally the inaugural program was concluded by the college anthem.
