K2K Campaigners Halt at St. Xaviers.

A National Integration Campaign, under the banner of Jago Yuva Bharat, and known as K2K (Kanyakumari to Kashmir), undertaken by 25 Youth and organized by Youth Activ8 Foundation under the guidance of Sr. Edleburgh was launched at Kanyakumari on 12th January 2011 -observed in our country as the National Youth Day after Swami Vivekanand, as well as to commemorate the International Year of the Youth declared by the United Nations Organization.

This yatra has for its theme "youth for peace and harmony through dialogue and mutual understanding"; it aims at networking with Youth Movements , NGOs , University and College students, to create awareness about their greater role in defining and shaping the future of our nation.

This group of 25 youth visited St. Xavier's College, Mapuca, on the 25th January, 2011. They were welcomed with flowers by the Principal, Vice Principals, Staff and Students.

During two hours long programme, the College students had a meaningful interaction with the group they discussed various issues such as involvement of youth in politics, climate change, etc. and exchanged experiences, opinions and problem solving techniques to evolve a better India. Some cultural items were also put up. Our students sang the traditional Mando and acted out a mime highlighting the environmental degradation and pollution. The group also performed dances on the theme of preserving the nature, its environment and curbing pollution of rivers. The youth of K2K were better acquainted with the college and its campus as they watched a documentary that enlightened them.

Earlier, the Principal Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sa appreciated the initiative of the 25 youth to go around the country on a 60 days yatra to conscientize the youngsters and to motivate them to work selflessly and unitedly towards the development of the country.

Referring to Pope Paul VI , the Principal observed that the Youth can do much to renew society, marked by acts of inhuman violence if they allow themselves to be guided by the Spirit of God. Further, he added that, in the recent past, Pope John Paul II had chosen a theme, for the World Day of Peace, namely, Peace and Youth Go Together.

The programme was coordinated by Prof. Aaron Paul Fernandes and Prof. Worrel D'Souza while Ms. Aditi Silveira and Ms. Malaika Fernandes compered the programme, and Mr. Mark Pereira proposed the vote of thanks.

A few days later, about 50 students and 5 faculty members of the Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS) accompanied by their Principal, Dr. P.P. Joseph and the Coordinator of the BBA Department, Ms. Sunita Anand, visited our College. Ms. Vanessa Furtado welcomed and introduced to them the various undergraduate and post graduate programmes run at St Xavier's. The students from both the colleges had a meaningful interaction.

The Principal, Dr. Joseph addressed our students on the latest trends in the field of Management. Ms. Sunita Anand spoke on the tourism perspective in Bhopal. It ended with a vote of thanks by Mr. Levis Mendonsa
