Jean-Baptiste,

I understand the problem - Mail-Archive is drowning in
lists. I'm not sure I understand the solution you are
proposing.

Is it possible to implement the front end you describe
at your site?

The raw list of lists can easily be parsed from
http://www.mail-archive.com/lists.html (or I can provide it in a more
direct form, if needed. Perhaps you could implement your idea, and
when it works great we can make it the official entry point to
http://www.mail-archive.com

What do you think?

Jeff

PS I CC:'d this letter to a mail-archive.com discussion list, just
in case others are thinking along the same lines.

Hi,

Mail-Archive is a great site,
i've post to is some Java related site ... (palm, java-linux, jos, ...)

one of the problem i was confront is that each topics of jos lists: admin,
apps, arch, general, ui, info, ...
are lost among the othrers list so they are hard to find out :(

Can't there be way to class list within topics (it would ease to seek for
something) ?

The name of the user name given by the mail header replyTo: is not enough :(

An idea would be to have a CGI/servlet/scrpit that list the ready-to-go
lists (lists that have send at least 1 email to jab.org) and allow anyone
to give him a topic path once for all time.

Then the front page can display the list at the right topic place.

Long life to Mail-Archive

Sincerely.
