They never really stopped if from being stand alone. ICS is a package deal. You are still have have been able to just get the stand alone copy of the imail server. I know what you are talking about and I went though it with their sales force over and over again. Before or shortly after the release of ICS they allowed you to just get the stand alone server. I don't rember them not selling the ICS alone as to many people complained about not wanting the ICS package just the stand alon mail server.
