Why not?  Direct all LAN DNS requests to the cacheing server, and turn off recursion on the nameserver.   However, I would recommend the reverse of what you've configured.  Set up your cacheing server on the local IMail machine, and don't allow recursion on your separate nameserver, which I assume responds to DNS queries from the internet.
