F-Prot does indeed perform phenomenally for a non-daemonized virus scanner. Even on Linux, when compared to daemonized scanners, F-Prot performs exceptionally very well. However, with that said, I run the ClamAV daemon (clamd) on our Linux servers and it is blazingly fast. If I were running it on a Windows platform, I would try to run it as a service, if at all possible, even if I had to schedule a task to cycle the clamd service daily to keep it running efficiently.
