I asked this question with no reply from ipswitch:
How much ram is your smtpd32 service using on average? Ours seems to just keep using memory until a bounce of the service. Is this normal?
Sorry for hijacking the thread...

This will not work as IMail will not accept a domain literal ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) for an IP not bound to the IMAil machine... I would like to see the telnet conversation using the domain name in place of the IP? Try using the VRFY command and the RCPT TO command.

Sandy,
Telnetting from IMAIL to Exchange to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using the
@[192.168.2.23] has errors. If I use the [EMAIL PROTECTED] - it is
successful. Please see below.

This is a test. Sending from my PC, telnetting to Imail. And from Imail sending to Exchange's [EMAIL PROTECTED] where 192.168.2.23 is the ip of the exchange server. Please also see the Postmaster email below from Imail after the unsuccessful attempt.
You need to Telnet from the IMail server to the Exchange server; that's the connection we're trying to transcribe. It goes without saying that the connection to IMail results in successful delivery to IMail; that's irrelevant.
And you need to use the square brackets around the IP, not just the IP.
